Queen Margrethe II of Denmark had reigned for nearly 52 years until her recent announcement of abdication at the end of 2023. Frederik X is now the King of Denmark as the true successor to Queen Margrethe II!

Some of my Danish associates remarked on her apparently deteriorating mental health. While the abdication in itself was a surprise, the limited reign of the throne was not.

There have been numerous speculations regarding the circumstances of her abdication indeed. Last night I also received a disheartening news from Buckingham Palace that the King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer.
