Urban Assault is a 3D FPS RTS hybrid video game that was developed by the German company TerraTools and published by Microsoft in 1998. As the official main community of Microsoft Urban Assault, our website offers the fully authentic and verified game files that are safe to use.
This guide explains how to download and install Microsoft Urban Assault on modern hardware and systems. Should you require technical assistance, please check our UA Wiki/Lexicon for the information about troubleshooting, or open a support ticket on the Forums for further help.

If you have already acquired any UA files from any other unverified sources on the internet, we highly recommend you to remove them from your computers ASAP. Unfortunately, there are numerous broken and corrupted UA game files that are floating around the internet, and the majority of them do not straight out work and contain substantial bugs, and some of them may even contain viruses. For this reason, our community only provides technical support for the most safe and authentic game files we are directly hosting on our own verified game file server.
Therefore, please remove any other game files you have acquired from anywhere else before downloading our clean game files below!

However, if you want a quick and easy solution for running the game on modern hardware without any additional workarounds or troubleshooting, then please download and use 'OpenUA Standalone Package'!
Original Urban Assault
(NOTE: This is the original authentic retail copy of Microsoft Urban Assault as it was released in 1998. Therefore, it may require additional configurations and workarounds to properly install and play on modern hardware.)
Metropolis Dawn Expansion pack
(NOTE: Metropolis Dawn is the official expansion to Urban Assault. The expansion pack requires either 'Typical' or 'Full' installation of the original Urban Assault with full registry data on the machine before it can be installed.)
Urban Assault Trial
(NOTE: Urban Assault Trial is the official demo version of Urban Assault.)
AI Helicopter Patch
(NOTE: This is a set of patched game executables designed to eliminate the notorious 'AI Helicopter Glitch' in the original game engine. OpenUA does not require this fix!)
OpenUA Standalone Package (Recommended)
(NOTE: If you are new here, and have problems determining which game files to download and/or already experienced various technical issues with the original UA on your machines, then download and use this package. Also, when using this package, please check the 'Package Description' Readme file first! Everything you need to know about the package is properly explained in there. Now the package also contains the authentic and official German, French, and Japanese localisation files of UA! The package also comes with Metropolis Dawn expansion, and it does not require a manual installation since everything is pre-configured and pre-packaged already.)

OpenUA Standalone Demo Package
(NOTE: This is the trial version of the game that has been configured to be played on OpenUA in a similar manner to the above standalone package.)
Instructions
The installation methods are generally straightforward. However, additional configurations and workarounds maybe necessary on modern systems.
How to install Urban Assault:
Mount the UASSAULT.mdf and UASSAULT.mds into a virtual disk emulator of your choice, and run the Setup.exe to launch the installer. Follow the instructions in the installer. It may require administrator privileges and backward compatibility settings to run properly.
How to install Metropolis Dawn:
The Metropolis Dawn expansion pack requires either 'Typical' or 'Full' installation of the original UA with full registry data. Once the original UA installed, run the Setup.exe in the expansion package. Follow the instructions in the installer.
How to install Urban Assault Trial:
Launch the MSUADEMO.exe with administrator privileges and follow the instructions in the installer. if the installer does not work properly, try backward compatibility settings.
How to install OpenUA:
There are multiple ways to install OpenUA for different purposes such as manual compilation. These will be covered in the separate OpenUA article in future.
OpenUA Standalone Package does not require any installation.
