1 Information
This article covers about the official translations and localisations of Urban Assault and Metropolis Dawn, as well as the native 'Language' selection function that is present in the game.
2 Overview
Urban Assault was created by German company TerraTools. The game's original language is German with full text and voiceovers. After the successful publishing contract with Microsoft, Urban Assault was also officially translated into English, French, and Japanese (quite rare for its time for a western game) languages with full text and voice localisation data.
Metropolis Dawn Expansion Pack was created by the same German TerraTools developers (this time, also known as 'The Urban Assault Missions CD - Team'), but it was never released officially due to contract issues with a publisher. Still, the developers had successfully translate the expansion pack contents into English, French, and German (original).
3 Functionality
Urban Assault game engine can parse and load multiple variants of different language packs simultaneously without replacing another in the game data. Once the game engine detects any additional language packs, there will be a new button appearing at the lower-right corner at the main menu screen, named 'Obsolete' (originally called 'Language'), which allows the users to access the new page to select which language data pack to display the game contents.
