    1 Information

The Ghorkov (German: Die Ghorkov/Die Kyterneser) is a playable main faction in both single-player and multiplayer modes of Urban Assault. In the Metropolis Dawn Ghorkov campaign, the player's faction is Ghorkov. The faction colour of the Ghorkovs is red.

    2 Official Description (HELP files)

    Quote

This totalitarian and militaristic faction that emerged from Eurasia after The Big Mistake has weapons technology at least equal to our own. Diplomacy has failed. The Ghorkovs resent our earlier betrayal of them to the off-world Mykonians.

    NOTES:

    • The HELP files entries are written from the Resistance perspective.
    • The HELP files may contain slightly outdated information.

The Ghorkovs had emerged from Eastern Europe after the Big Mistake, and they are also known as the Kyterneser. Their expansive influence and territories stretch across the entire Eurasia.

    5 Playability

    Yes

The faction is designed as a playable main faction in the game for players, and constitutes an integral part of the multiplayer balance system between the other playable main factions.

    6 Lore Information

The Ghorkov is a militaristic empire and a police state that holds totalitarianism and communism ideologies. They are arguably the most similar to the Resistance in terms of equipment and technology they utilise. But they still possess more futuristic and advanced vehicle designs and weaponry, including their productive applications of various radiation-based energy weapons utilising the Electromagnetic Impulse technology. The Ghorkov host station icon is an ideological symbol of a red star. The Ghorkovs were originally allies of the Resistance, but this alliance was severed when the Resistance attempted to sell the Ghorkovs out to the Mykonian occupied zones. The Resistance categorically denied this notion which angered them.

The Ghorkovs had emerged from Eastern Europe after The Big Mistake. The Ghrokovian zones of influence stretch across the entire continents of Eurasia. The Ghorkovs are also known as the 'Kyterneser', which is actually the true name of the Ghorkovian nation. In fact, the 'Ghorkov' is an exonym that is used by the other factions to refer them, whereas the 'Kyterneser' is an endonym. They are also the only group of humans who attempt to survive on surface and gradually reclaim the soil that was devastated and polluted by the unfiltered solar radiation for many years following the hazardous disaster events of the Big Mistake. Their productive recycling of human organs for medical transplantations are known to support this process.

In the Ghorkov campaign of Metropolis Dawn expansion pack, the player (Conrade) becomes a pivotal figure as the new Turantul (I & II) host station commander who were tasked with conducting various types of critical military operations at maintaining and restoring the Ghorkovian control and order within their vast territories from the massive large-scale invasions and infiltrations of the hostile factions.

    7 Characteristics

The Ghorkov is considered a mobility faction. The Ghorkov units generally possess higher speed and mobility, trading shield in favour of rapid-response and quick manoeuvre capabilities in combat with their fast-moving units. They possess superb map control potential with their fast units suitable for mobile tactics that can be quickly deployed around the battlefield to interdict and contain enemy activity. The Ghorkovs can also apply their units to promptly secure a large number of sectors from both neutral and enemy territories and maintain zones of control to increase their energy income and production capacity, which are also economic advantages, while simultaneously decreasing the power generation capacity of their opponents.

    8 Strategy

As the mobility-oriented faction, the speed and mobility of the Ghorkovs are the key to success in both economic and military development. The fast speed of units allow the Ghorkov to capture numerous sectors quickly, and maintain their control by responding to enemy activity around their zones of control swiftly. This great map control potential allows securing more sectors easily and build up higher industry and energy income capacity faster than their opponents. As a result, the Ghorkovs rely on intensive macro-management and manoeuvre skills, where rapid-response and reaction speed can have a huge impact in their performance. They are also usually less influenced by the terrain layouts thanks to their aircraft-heavy nature.

    9 Host Station

In single-player mode, the Ghorkovs have two different classes of host stations: The Turantul I that appears in the early single-player levels (which is usually weakened further from the original weapon/shield values, based on a level progress), followed by the capital mothership Turantul II. The Turantul II, also known as its nickname 'Skorpio', is generally considered the most powerful host station in the game, whose extensive firepower even allows Ghorkov players to employ it as an offensive frontline asset to directly support friendly forces in battle.

In multiplayer mode, the Ghorkov will be always assigned with their Turantul II Skorpio-class mothership. Additionally, the player's variant of Skorpio in both multiplayer and Metropolis Dawn expansion pack have 4 turrets, whereas the AI variant of Skorpio in single-player mode has only 3 turrets by design. This results in reduced damage output only for the AI variant.
